projects I’d like to try

The internet is my best friend when I’m procrastinating.  Look what it just served up?  This awesome over-sized chalkboard paint calendar.  I’m not crazy about chalkboard paint usually — it always looks so nice in magazine homes and when I see it in friends homes it just looks messy (and no one I know has magazine stylist handwriting either).  However, this gives me new inspiration.  From Tea for Joy, found via You Are My Fave Jr.

Who doesn’t like a vintage bus roll?  I’m still in the process of (cheaply) decorating our white walls and I’ve been thinking of making my very own bus roll using the “roadway” font at dafont.com and photoshop, and then Rasterbating the image.  Remember this rasterbation project from our old apartment? PS I love the sea stones under the table in this image!  If you don’t want to make your own, but like the idea of a custom bus roll, check out Etsy seller Hirondelle Rustique’s for $99.

Blanket Upholstered Ottoman

September 2, 2009

blanket

I bought a discontinued ottoman just like the one above at the Pottery Barn Outlet in Riverhead, NY for $70.  Now I’m thinking about upholstering it with an old blanket since I have tons of moth eaten wool blankets from my grandparents lake house that I’ve been holding on to for just this sort of project….  Found via Aesthetic Outburst.

I’m inspired by the artwork of Rachel Castle which is made using vintage linens and various materials, in this case felt.  I’d love to try my hand something similar to this!

I’ve always thought custom made monograms were delicious.  Even though I didn’t change my name when I got married, I secretly coveted a cool custom monogram of our new married life/name. When I saw this  great how to on Design Sponge via the NYPL I thought well, maybe I’ll finally get (make!) that custom monogram!

March 6, 2008

I’m a big fan of clipping, saving little bits of everything that delight you. I saw this art this morning on lovely blog Fine Little Day and am in love!
