Drive-By Metropolitan

October 18, 2012

Alex and I took a quickie drive-by trip to the Metropolitan today; the benefit of a membership is that if we want to take a walk that last only 20 minutes, we can!  We walked through the temple of dendur,  past arms and armour, through the American wing and almost out the door when Alex said he wanted to “see the paintings” so up the stairs and through European Paintings we went. “Look at all the babies” Alex said to the galleries of religious art (and Madonna and child paintings).  Two of my favorites – Still Life with Silver by Alexandra Francois Desportes and The Harvesters by Peter Bruegel the Elder.

This children’s book (Old Robert and the Sea-Silly Cats) is in heavy rotation at bedtime (I think I’ve read it 8 times in three days!). It’s a really sweet story of a lonely old man who has four cats move on to his boat; It has a gentle cadence and we love the  illustrations! It reminds me of The Sailor Dog, another boat favorite in our house (which happens to be by Margaret Wise Brown!).
