Shoes

March 8, 2011

A couple of you asked about my shoes in that last post.  They are one of my favorite pairs:  the “Air Talia Mid Pump” from Cole Haan. I love the Cole Haan Nike Air collaboration — really comfortable. Anyway, I just noticed that the grey color is on sale for $109.

I picked up three of these tiny packs of Kleenex at Target this weekend and they make me happy every time I open my handbag.

This dress from Carolina Herrera caught my eye and reminded me of a Josef Frank cabinet I saw at the Hostler Burrows booth at the Winter Antiques show.

This past weekend Tim, Alex and I went exploring at ABC Homes after braving the chaos of the carpet store. While you wouldn’t expect it from pricey ABC, the basement of the carpet store sells some very affordable remnants (another post for another day on the rug we bought for the bedroom).

Above, Alex, the budding design scout, inspects the construction of AWESOME hot pink chair under my adoring tutelage.  Some other items that caught our collective eye:

December 30, 2010

These world paper placemats ($26 at Plastica) make me want to plan my next together. (PS Ashley and Aron, these made me think of you two traveling dynamos!)

Christmas!  It’s over!  It went in a delirious blaze of wrapping paper and cookies.  Alex, teething three teeth at once, slept poorly and woke up at 5:30am this morning. To allow my in-laws and sweet Tim to sleep in on Christmas Day, Alex and I drove around suburban Boston listening to 102.5′s Top 40 Country count-down, looking for coffee. Sixteen hours later, in my post-Christmas sleep deprived state,  this living space seems like just the kind of calm refuge I’d like to open a door and discover in my house.

In other news, my fashionable sister-in law rocked these Sorels ($129 Amazon.com) this weekend and I  just snagged a pair for myself (we are supposed to get two feet of snow in Boston tomorrow!). And, as I just discovered when I checked out, through the end of the year, all shoes are 25% off at Amazon!

My favorite present was this book, Natural History: The Ultimate Visual Guide To Everything on Earth ($30 on Amazon.com).  It’s delicious (look at the gems!) and something I know Alex will love poring over with me someday soon.

I hope everyone is recovering and merry merry!

Current Obsessions

December 6, 2010

I bought this parka ($140 from Land’s End Canvas) earlier in the fall (I was just so tired of black coats) and I don’t think I’ve ever been more excited to put on a coat.  The electric orange color makes me happy and everyone, from the security guards at work to my facialist, has something to say about it. One person told me it reminded her of her favorite crayon.

This isn’t exactly a new product, but, I impulse purchased one of the tiny purse sized Tide mini stain sticks ($5.99 for two) while in the checkout line of Target.   I have to say that these are as close to a miracle as I’m ever likely to get. Just this afternoon I managed to spill tomato soup down the entire front of my shirt (%!!#$). Enter the mini stain stick and one hour later you’d never know it.  Life saver.

I recently got a facial for the first time in probably three years.  The very kind and patience woman who worked on my aging and post-pardum skin used this Olay Regenerist product and suggested I use it twice a week at home.  I’d read lots of glowing reviews of the Regenerist line in woman’s magazines and had fairly cynically assumed it was just paid hype.  However, I have to say I’ve been shocked at the effectiveness of the Regenerist microdermabrasion and peel system ($20.41 from Amazon) product.  Let me rave for a moment: I have glowing skin; I look younger; I feel younger.  It’s easy to use, no icky scent, it’s not too harsh on my fair and fairly sensitive skin. Bottom line: I no longer look like the mother of a 18 month old child.

Advent Calendar

November 16, 2010

November is a tough month for me; its dark and usually cold (not this year!) and somehow I’m always busy and stressed.  December, however, I love — for the lights and parties, for the togetherness.  Advent calendars are one of my favorite parts of December.   This one from Uusi is lovely.

Happy Friday!

September 10, 2010

This oversized poster caught my eye; thinking about if there is a place for it in our apartment.  $30 here.  This weekend we are hanging out with old friends on Saturday then celebrating a 30th birthday (welcome to the club M!) and maybe going for a road trip here.
