‘All that glitters is not guilt’

I’m savoring the Margaret Wise Brown biography.  The second chapter finds MWB enrolled at Bank Street in the 1930s; a heady time and place, to be sure. This quote from Lucy Sprague Mitchell, one of the founding mothers of Bank Street has been bouncing around my head and seemed worthy of sharing:

“Time and again she (Lucy Sprague Mitchell) exhorted them (her students) to trust, not disparage, their imaginative instincts, for, as she assured a group of teacher trainees one day, ‘All that glitters is not guilt!'”
