A Few Good Suits

March 19, 2012

Maybe the best part of our recent beach trip was that it drove me to find a great bathing suit; it wasn’t as hard as I thought it would be. I think bathing suit technology (is that even a thing?) has gotten much better since my 20s or I’ve become more forgiving of myself now that I’m in my 30s.  Or maybe its a little bit of both.  Anyway, for years I’ve had a dutiful black one piece bathing suit that lurked in my dresser at home, and then lurked in the bottom of my weekend bag on our trips to Cape Cod only to never be worn, trip after trip.  So, I decided that I’m done with black bathing suits. Life is just too short!  I bought a navy MiracleSuit from Bloomingdales online and it lives up to its name.  I highly highly recommend!

I also bought this lilac suit from Old Navy as well as this suit from Karla Colletto.

This will be old news to those of you who grew up going to the beach but I hadn’t realized you have to have at least two and probably three bathing suits for a trip to the beach.  Because sitting in a wet suit sucks and so does changing back into a wet suit.  I brought two suits to Antigua and I purchased the Old Navy suit as soon as we got back, while I remembered the need for a third.  Alex loves the water so I have a feeling we’ll be headed to the Rockaways all summer.

NB: At Stephanie’s suggestion, I tried on this amazing suit at Anthropologie.  It is gorgeous and much more flattering on a curvy lady than I thought it would be.  It would be perfect on someone with broad shoulders (sadly not me).

love the print on the anthropologie suit. i think i need a 1-piece to supplement my 2-piece this summer. i’m not sure my local anthropologie carries bathing suits, unfortunately!

This is good to know! I was never a fan of black suits on curvy girls. Maybe a black bottom but that’s it. Yeah for the multiple swimsuits!

Abbey – what was the fit like on the Miracle Suit? I totally want to order one; is it true to size or did you have to size up by one? Would love your input!

Amy — I thought the fit was great! I ordered a size 12 (i’m a 38 E, too) and it fit perfectly.

Great selection of one piece suits. I love the navy miracle suit and the anthropologie suit. I’m sure I don’t have the shoulders for it or the guts for that much cleavage , but I’m inspired to buy an alternate to my own stand by black one piece.
