Just one article today:

The Atlantic: Hacked!

A riveting article about the author’s wife losing her Gmail account to a hacker.  What caught my attention about this article is that a friend had an almost identical experience. Someone commandeered her Facebook and Gmail and sent a series of emails to everyone she knew asking for money. Gmail and Facebook were amazingly unhelpful — my friend was never able to get back in Facebook and lost all of her photos.  I think we forget that we don’t pay for these services and that means we really have no resource when things go wrong.  Time to change and strengthen our passwords!

That article was terrifying. I love the reminder that your password is only as strong as the weakest security system you use it on. I’m guilty of reusing passwords — far too often! Time to invest a bit of time into securing them.

I got off facebook, but you know it keeps all your profile stuff for if you come back. Ugh, it would be nice if it deleted it.
