Looking Ahead

August 25, 2011

This weekend: making these easy and delicious tomato tartlets and battening down the hatches.  The last tomatoes of summer are on sale at my local Whole Foods.  Why does summer always feel so fast?

These look divine! Let me tell how fast summer feels when it really only became summer-esque 10 days or so ago. Gotta love that Pacific NW climate. (maybe not.) This year we’ll be lucky if we get one full month of true (75 degrees plus) summer weather!

Dear Abbey,
I was delighted to run into your splendid Web site, while looking around for a way to get in touch with your mother. I’m her old friend from CBS who has fallen out of touch. I happened on the Post article on you, which led me to your site. I had been thinking about Christina several times lately, and again with the terrible flooding in Vermont. I see your parents have moved to N. Carolina. I knew they had gone there temporarily (I thought), but didn’t know until something on your site made it sound permanent. Thanks heavens they are not swept up in that whole misery up there.

I stayed up late exploring your site. So elegant and interesting!. I wanted to run out and buy avocado oil right away, but even though the city has bounced back after Irene, that didn’t seem quite feasible after midnight even in Manhattan. I enjoyed hearing about your little boy. These tomato tarts are enchanting. I wanted to plow through the whole thing right then, but finally decided that I should sign off and go back later for a more leisurely tour through the archives.

Could you send me Christina’s e-mail, and yours as well?

I’ve been scooping up beautiful heirloom tomatoes from our WF every night for over a week. They’ve been eaten on sandwiches, as caprese salad and by themselves… I can’t believe I didn’t think of cooking them. Those tarts look absolutely divine!

Thanks for the great idea! I’ll be making yet another tomato purchase tonight!
