Living with plants

January 5, 2010

I’ve been worrying about indoor air quality because we just bought some new shelves from IKEA for the nursery (particle board can offgas).  Houseplants are a great solution because they dramatically improve air quality. So, yesterday I bought a bamboo palm and a boston fern, two plants that have superior air cleaning capabilities, at the Plant Shed on the Upper West Side.  I caught this great image over at Design*Sponge thanks to a tip from Joanna.  The large leafy tree is a fig plant, which require bright light.   PS My thesis is due on the 28th!!!!!!

That’s my dream studio. I’ll have to bookmark this. It’s almost exactly what I had in my head. (with a few dress forms ofcourse) Thanks!

Fiddle leaf fig trees are my favorite! I had a great one that I had to leave back home when we moved…I need to get and out find another here. But living in the tropics, I fret about those little bugs that sometimes like very humid, hot houseplants…any advice on those guys?

Best of luck with your thesis!

I love the idea of plants in the nursery. I’m going to get one for the baby’s table. I think her room could use a little green anyway. Hope you are hanging in there with the thesis!!

You can do it Abbey! The timely completion of your thesis that is.

As a former graduate student, I know how hard the last push can be but think of the bliss once you are done. What an accomplishment!

Keep up the good work.

Good luck on the thesis!
