We are on vacation on Cape Cod this week, grilling whole fish, walking on the beach, eating lobster rolls, enjoying driving our rental car (since we are car-less New Yorkers). It feels a little odd to be on vacation the week AFTER labor day — sort of like calling in sick when you aren’t or getting to leave for Christmas vacation a day earlier than everyone else when you’re a kid. Everywhere we go here, people are packing up, getting ready for the off season. Bittersweet somehow. Temperatures are in the 50s at night and you can really feel the chill of fall and makes the sweet house where we are staying all the more cozy. Images from Allyson Gowdy Thayer.

We live on Martha’s Vineyard and love the Cape, the best time of year is just getting started! enjoy!
Yeah, I would think this is the time when you can see how the locals really do it. Enjoy the cape!
The week after Labor Day has become one of my favorite times to visit the Cape…the “tourists” are mostly all gone…lol. Enjoy your trip, Abbey!
Sounds like a lovely vaca – always needed after a long weekend!
Have fun! I agree, being away after Labor Day is a great time to travel – more space, less expensive, more restful. Love the photos too.
this is gorgeous!
Makes me miss Chatham and Lobster Rolls!
Hope you had a great vacation!
That sounds absolutely perfect…especially the lobster rolls! Hope you are having a wonderful time;)
Just got home from the cape…oh a few weeks ago…still just as fun as when I was a child…only, no grandparents…thank you for sharing, beautiful photos.
