I know it is really truly fall when my feet get cold in the apartment, as they did this morning. Cold feet are a fall and winter affliction for me. Time to bust out the slippers and say farewell to summer and warm toes. Sad, really. This lovely tumble of green is courtesy of Gabi Tubbs.

The trusty Cuisinart toaster my mother gave me when I graduated college died this week. I guess that might be a leading indicator that I’m aging… Anyway, as a new mom I suddenly buy everything on Amazon.com (carbon footprint be damned) because I have a Prime account with free shipping. Believe me when I say, someone at Amazon.com knows what they are doing. In looking for a simple straight forward toaster on Amazon this evening, the funky egg toaster is the first thing that popped up. The egg dish some how yucks me out. UPDATE: The on-the-ground report from readers is that this toaster works and the eggs aren’t bad. So, it just goes to show you that you shouldn’t judge a toaster by its egg cup.

These electric blue framed city posters ($38, includes the frame) by Binth caught my eye this morning… London, Paris, New York, Berlin (plus Chicago and San Francisco). A set of four would look sweet in a nursery or in an entry way. Since each print only measures 8 x 10, multiples are critical for making a statement. I hate the “etsy” effect … a tiny print or two on a sea of a white wall.
Found thanks to this morning’s Stroller Traffic newsletter…

I’ve been lusting after a Kindle recently since a couple of good friends (who also happen to be new moms) are Kindle fanatics. My father is a writer and I grew up in a house filled to the brim with books. My reservations about the Kindle are two-fold a) I don’t want another device to charge and (b) I like to see the physical books I’ve read lined up on my bookshelf. I suppose I could always buy cheap used copies of the books I read on my Kindle that I LOVED, but that seems a little nuts. It’s a pickle, this technology thing.
All of this is preamble to explain why I was delighted to see the work of Jane Mount. She paints bookshelves and will do a custom portrait of your favorite shelf at home. I love this idea and think it makes a perfect gift for the reader or writer in your life!

I’ve gotten it into my head that the bedroom needs work (after 10 years of ignoring the space!). I’ve been keeping my eye out for great peaceful bedrooms and this one caught my eye (and, I’ll admit it, so did that quilt!). The walls are painted Spring Mint and trim is Light Touch, both by Benjamin Moore Via Creature Comforts, via xJavierx’s flickr.

My absolute favorite guide to Paris — I take it every time I go to Paris and mark where I’ve been. Each page is a detailed map of a section of the city. Easy to use, easy to stash in your bag, and means you’re never alone! They make these maps for most cities — I always buy one before I go somewhere new.

I hope to be as elegant and poised as this woman (and live in an apartment with that kind of light)! PS: Notice the striped rug….. stripes on the brain today. Found on photograher’s Huge Stewart’s site.

We are on vacation on Cape Cod this week, grilling whole fish, walking on the beach, eating lobster rolls, enjoying driving our rental car (since we are car-less New Yorkers). It feels a little odd to be on vacation the week AFTER labor day — sort of like calling in sick when you aren’t or getting to leave for Christmas vacation a day earlier than everyone else when you’re a kid. Everywhere we go here, people are packing up, getting ready for the off season. Bittersweet somehow. Temperatures are in the 50s at night and you can really feel the chill of fall and makes the sweet house where we are staying all the more cozy. Images from Allyson Gowdy Thayer.

Leigh had her baby! A warm welcome to Walker Emerson Alexander. You are already a Marvelous Kiddo.

Tim and I watched I Love You, Man tonight which was a pretty funny movie (but then again, I take all the laughs I can get these days, so maybe I’m just easy). In any case, what I really liked was the upholstered bed in this scene — so grown up but not too fussy. Anyone know where this is from? Or who might sell one like it? I’ve checked the usual suspects: CB2, Room and Board, Mitchell Gold.
