As loyal readers of this blog will be intimately familiar, I can’t spell to save my life.  Thus, I’ve never liked Scrabble.  Yes, I’m on of those people who doesn’t like things she’s not good at.  However, many of my friends (who seem to universally be excellent spellers) LOVE the game.  So, this one’s for you.  An awesome ABC poster for the children of the Scrabble set, $9 from Shorty + Pop.

It's TWINE!

August 6, 2009

I’ve long been a fan of children’s toy shop ROMP and was delighted to hear that ROMP’s proprietress Jenn LaBelle has a new adult-focused shop, TWINE. She writes “TWINE is more value in less goods and the everyday usefulness of joy, beauty, light, humor, color and love.” Sounds like a prescription for all of us to live by, especially in this new economy. My sister gave Alex one of these sweet wooden giraffes and it is my favorite thing in his nursery.  I could, and do, look at it for hours.

Then,  I’m loving this Japanese fish paperweight, also from TWINE.  So chic, so simple.

A friend emailed me raving about an Ina Garten-themed dinner party she went to on Sunday.  Everyone was assigned a course, and the recipe had to come from ina’s ‘canon’.  Evidently it was fun and delicious and a great deal of the “juice of a few flowers” was consumed by all. On your behalf, dear readers, I demanded the menu asap and here it is:

drinks
juice of a few flowers (lemon, lime, orange & grapefruit fresh squeezed, with vodka & mint)
appetizers:
savory palmier
bruchetta with gorgonzola & red pepper, yellow pepper, and caper compote
bruchetta with brie and caramelized onions
Starter course:
borscht, served cold
Main:
roasted chicken with lemon and bacon
Side:
walnut pesto past
corn pudding
Dessert:
coconut macaroons
Oh and see Ina’s new house here! Image from stijn’s photostream

My obsession with the combination of chocolate and peanut butter is well documented on this blog, and I have the next installment today: Purely Decadent’s Chocolate Peanut Butter Swirl.  I’m not one to use the term “off the hook” but somehow the term applies here.  IT IS THE MOST DELICIOUS THING I’VE EATEN IN A LONG TIME.  As an added bonus, it is organic, dairy free (but you’d NEVER know it) and about half the fat of my favorite haagen-dazs flavor.  I am stockpiling it in my freezer against the day they stop making it (which happened with my favorite chocolate peanut butter flavor from Ben and Jerry’s so it can happen people, it can happen).

PS: My macbook pro charger cord melted down/burned up spectacularly last night — it was nothing short of scary.

Totally loving the papergoods over at Parcel, including these faux bois journals (I loved faux bois before it was trendy, and continue to even as it is a totally done fad). I’m a loyalist.
