Between above ($199, cb2) and below ($199, pottery barn teen)? I’m leaning towards the cb2 one because it is returnable and slightly sleeker.

It’s for our sad (soon to be happy) dining room.  Oh, and I’m working on the art bit too!

Oh Nora!

Picture 19

There is an amazing article on Nora Ephron in the July 6 & 13, 2009 New Yorker.  She is a smart, tough, inspiring lady.  I had no idea her parents were a husband-wife script writing team.  Or that she had been a journalist or that she is happily married to a man who won’t eat standing up (no cocktail parties). I can’t wait to see Julie & Julia.

Fish Plates

July 28, 2009

If you dug this image of fish plates (I’m obsessed with those green tiles, myself!), check out these sweet brass plates from High Street Vintage ($24).

So, hot or not?  Evidently oxfords are it for fall.  I’m a sucker for metallics, but, oxfords? $125 at Topshop.

I can’t wait for Mad Men to return to the little screen this season. AMC and Banana Republic are holding a cyber casting call for a walk-on role on Mad Men and Porter is in the running for a walk-on role in the show.  Vote here (click all 5 stars…)! See more over at Hollister’s site.

Sweetest Backyard

July 27, 2009

Picture 14

I love this backyard renovation from Cookie Magazine.  I’m storing this away for inspiration in case we ever have a backyard.  I hope everyone had a great weekend — we were in Vermont which was breezy and cool.

Stroller Traffic

July 21, 2009

Picture 7

The sweet and smart folks over at Stroller Traffic, (a Daily Candy-ish daily e-newsletter for the stroller set) were nice enough to ask me about how to find great baby stuff on Etsy.  You can see the article here and one of my favorite Stroller Traffic newsletters on traveling with babies here.  Oh, and you can subscribe here!

Our dining room is in serious need of some art (see sad picture below) and I found inspiration in this vintage aerial photograph found on kellylj’s photostream. You can search for vintage aerial photographs of your house, town or city here, but they don’t make them as large as the image above (I guesstimate that I’m looking for something 6 feet by 4 feet or a little smaller).

An Anniversary Picnic

July 16, 2009

Yesterday was our third wedding anniversary and to celebrate we had a picnic in the park.  Cherries, lots of cheese and french bread, melon and prosciutto and of course some red wine. As a special treat for the husband, I made one of my favorite appetizers: gorgonzola, honey and salami on french bread.  Then, for dessert we had cream puffs. The rectangular glass containers and the round french glass containers are both from the Container Store, and some of my favorite items in our kitchen.  I particularly like the rectangular containers because the lid functions as a mini cheese plate.  A cutie picture of me and Alex below!

Speaking of Anchors…

July 13, 2009

Picture 5

Tim, the babe and I went to the roof of the Met on Friday night to soak in the beautiful weather and give Alex his first taste of culture with a capital C (and to introduce little Alex to big Alex).  It was nice to start to feel like an adult again, capable of talking and thinking about things besides poopy diapers and how cute my child is (really cute).  It was a wonderful and surprisingly baby friendly outing.  Joanna was a doll to realize how much we might need culture, and non baby talk in a non baby setting.  I spied these shoes on the chicest of women on the Met roof and suddenly just madly wanted to be as chic as she.

On the wall

July 12, 2009

This awesome kitchen and plate collection caught my eye (how cute are those anchor curtains?) and reminded me of the wall of fish plates from Martha Stewart Living awhile back.

Then I saw this awesome project from Fine Little Day below involving drawing on vintage plates with a porcelain pen.

That blue box of butterflies and the round mirror are just perfect.  See more on gallery walls here.
