The Nursery!

May 8, 2009

We’re into the final stretch and just to prove I’m ready (ha!), here is a shot of our nursery. In the beginning of my pregnancy I somehow felt that the nursery should be as “decorated” as the rest of the house and incorporate lots of cool vintage items which then of course started to feel like too much pressure on me and on the baby.  In the end,  we decided to keep the nursery as simple and low key as possible.  It still looks nice, but isn’t overdecorated.  I’m sure this will evolve over time, as our son develops his own personality and desires (and I find the perfect vintage poster).  We also kept it affordable –  the crib, changing table and flag decals ($10 dollars a set and I used two!) are all from Wal-Mart.  The Anthroplogie rug, trashcan and Oeuf baby lounger were all gifts.  The sheet has sweet clouds (6.99) on it and the crib skirt ($16.99) is striped — both are from Target.  I nearly fainted when I saw how much designer crib skirts cost (seriously, at $250 dollars a skirt, that is a business I should get into).  I used myregistry.com for my baby showers and what is genius about the site that you can add products from ANY website to your registry so I was able to get what I really truly wanted.

This is adorable. I’m a huge fan of that rug …

Sophie @ Century Finds May 9, 2009 at 1:02 am

Wow. I love the rug, but I am mostly in awe of how you pulled the room together with a mixture of very affordable and slighty less affordable pieces. That is a true art! Congratulations!

evencleveland May 9, 2009 at 2:00 am

This is one of the sweetest nurseries I have seen. I think it is perfect.

Lindsay May 9, 2009 at 3:10 am

Anne @ The City Sage May 9, 2009 at 10:40 am

It is absolute perfection—I can’t believe the furniture is from Wal Mart! It looks so high design. The flag decals are a perfect touch with the bright colors of the rug. Love it!

I loooove it! Those flags are awesome; I sort of want to put them up in my kitchen. The room has a great feel; nice and simple and relaxing. And happy!
(BTW, since you’ve been good enough to link to me, note my new blog address… Whee!)

i love it so much!!!! so cheery and welcoming. :)

Liz@VioletPosy May 10, 2009 at 12:35 pm

Gorgeous! I especially love the bunting flags. My only other advice for such a perfect room is try and get yourself a very comfortable feeding chair. I had one instead of an eternity ring and we still use it now 6 years later to snuggle in and read stories – priceless :)

abby May 10, 2009 at 1:18 pm

i mean it sincerely this is the cutest nursery i’ve ever seen! congrats!

K.D. May 10, 2009 at 9:22 pm

Beautiful. I love the colors and the fact that it isn’t about the sex of the baby. Congrats to you both!

Lucy May 10, 2009 at 11:59 pm

This is an adorable nursery. Nice work! It’s hard to make all the practical stuff look pretty but you’ve pulled it off. I love rug.

Chelsea May 11, 2009 at 9:11 am

Melanie May 11, 2009 at 9:37 am

so light and cheerful, it looks great!

Mrs. Petrie May 11, 2009 at 10:20 am

That furniture is from Walmart? It looks like a million bucks! You should submit it to Ohdeedoh (apartment therapy’s children site). It’s awesome.

Mouse May 11, 2009 at 10:26 am

SO SWEET! I love the flags–baby will feel so celebrated!

Estelle May 11, 2009 at 10:54 am

I love the nursery, it looks fabulous – great work! I can vouch for the lounger too, our little man is only two weeks old and he uses it every single day. The cat even sits in it on occasion!

Kelly May 11, 2009 at 12:13 pm

Melissa May 11, 2009 at 5:13 pm

I heart your nursery. We tried to find a similar crib and changing table for our baby girl but came up short. I had no idea WalMart carried something so modern and safe. Thanks for sharing.

Abbey May 12, 2009 at 4:36 pm

thanks everyone for all the nice comments — I’m so glad everyone likes it — I wasn’t sure that it would go over well since its not GORGEOUS the way some nurserys are. I too am undone that walmart sells the bunting decals — amazing. They’d be great for a party too! Since they are totally removable….

Michelle May 12, 2009 at 4:43 pm

What a perfect nursery. The rug is amazing and so kid-friendly. I just may have to check out Walmart’s decals now!

The Lil Bee May 13, 2009 at 7:03 am

This is incredible…I am completely in awe!!

Amanda May 13, 2009 at 9:14 am

Your little will be one happy camper :) .

nkp May 13, 2009 at 10:33 am

This looks so beautiful and from a mama of three kiddos, believe me when I say, you really have everything you need. And such a smart decison to wait until your little one arrives to fill in the blanks with pieces you love that will suite your home and babe.

The rug and garland decals are just outstanding! You’ve done an amazing job. Good luck with the rest of your pregnancy and hope you have a quick and easy delivery!!! :0)

David Young May 14, 2009 at 7:27 pm

OMGosh! The flags are the cutest thing and greatest idea I’ve seen in a long while. Super duper cute!!!

Seleta May 16, 2009 at 11:58 am

Abbey,

I’m so late stopping in, but had to say your nursery is darling. You’re already a wonderful mommy! What a happy little one you will have!
