I love peonies (and believe they helped me find my husband) and am smitten with these from photographer Kari Herer.

First seen at Cup of Jo and then reminded again over at City Sage

Inspired by Jordan’s use of removable wallpaper from Sherwin-Williams’ “Easy Change” line in her entry way  I’ve been browsing the Easy Change line website (which is NOT user friendly) and thought I’d share some of my favorites with you (see all of my picks in my Flickr).   If you like any of these and want to fine them on the Easy Change website, try searching on the “skew” number, ie SW7KC4073 in the image below.

I thought this would be nice for the nursery…

This could be great on one wall of our entry way…

For a wall of our bedroom?

This is the same pattern Jordan used, but in green. It could look great in on one wall of our entryway too.

PS you’ll remember how much I liked Jordan’s old entry way.

You’ve got to try these all natural chocolate bars from Q.bel.  They are the most delicious food I’ve had in long time.  I will say that one of the best parts of pregnancy has been that food just tastes SO GOOD.  Just to check my taste buds (I wouldn’t want to lead you astray), I fed some to my husband, and he loved them too.  I’ve given up conventional candy bars because they are filled with all sorts of things I don’t think my baby boy needs to consume.  So I was delighted to find these which have:

No Artificial Colors
No Artificial Flavors
No Preservatives
No High Fructose Corn Syrup
No Hydrogenated Oils

I found them at Whole Foods (they were tantalizingly in my path during checkout).

PS: I found the blog Candy Yum Yum in the course of searching for images of the bars…a blog devoted to candy…this I need in my life!

Carpeting the kitchen?

March 24, 2009

Kitchen Inspiration

Our kitchen has dirty white UGLY tiles that date to its 1980s renovation.  I’d love to cover them with some wall to wall carpeting which I know at first sounds like a terrible idea — carpet in the kitchen?  However, I love this image for Domino featuring navy blue carpet. I’ve been thinking about using faux sisal (basically a polyester rug) but cut to fit like wall to wall since one of my least favorite things (after ugly tile) is rugs that slip.

I like this example above (although I think I like navy more).  You can find more faux sisal here where it costs $8.70 a square foot.

Year of Flowers: 36 & 37

March 20, 2009

So I’m not quite done with the year of flowers: I turned 30 with 7 envelopes left!  I somehow hadn’t opened them in the last couple of weeks of house hunting, packing and moving.  See all them all here.

inspiration for the office

This galley office and

this FLOR tile carpet found via the Dooce are inspiring our new office space.

Here is the office/baby’s room before we moved in…

… and here is a “under construction” shot that shows off the results of yesterday’s labors.  The baby’s room will be on the left and our office on the right. I will need to worry about “baby proofing” but in the near term, this will do!  I’m planning on putting FLOR tiles as “wall to wall” in the office and on adding another Ikea bookcase to really finish defining the office space.  Then, I think that two long narrow shelves above the desks will look great.

Here’s another photo shelf from new to me blog Loving Living Small…. delicious!

Rainbow Cake!

March 17, 2009

I was away yesterday working on the apartment (unpacking up a storm!) and can’t wait to share some of my new apartment inspiration.  I was catching up on blog reading this morning and found this awesome rainbow cake from Omnomnom, via The Coterie Blog which I found via Cup of Jo.  Blog surffing is the best!  Happy Tuesday!

This room just oozes comfort!  And, they don’t have any curtains!  Lucky them. via AT NY

PS, I love their rug and its placement.

New Apartment Inspiration

Bedroom Inspiration

I’m still thinking about curtains and loving these two images.   I was floundering for a color selection and so I did what I also do in these cases: I called my mother.  She, in turn, consulted her feng shui decorating books and decoded that in our current apartment the best colors for curtains in the living and bedrooms are yellow, black, white and metallics.  Short of an actual decorator, feng shui books will have to do!

However, when she said the word yellow, I realized that I’d been saving images of yellow curtains  (see above) without even noticing.  So, yellow curtains it is!

I clicked around Mood Fabrics and found the following yellows — they are sending me FREE swatches (a godsend to pregnant women everywhere!).

Daily Dose of Green

I’ve been having internet issues (Time Warner is coming today to install our “real” internet) but I’ve managed to find a wireless connection that lasts long enough to post this beauty of a photograph from Richard Felber .   Spring keeps popping up everywhere on the web and in store display windows and I can’t wait to walk bare foot in new grass and feel the sun.

Here’s a shot of the new living room, which we were able to unpack pretty quickly.  You’ll notice all our old furniture in exactly the same configuration as the old apartment — it won’t stay this way, but for now, it is comfortable while we unpack the sea of boxes in the rest of the apartment.  I’m thinking of doing a gallery wall on the wall behind the couch.

Just for giggles, here is a shot of the old apartment in total moving chaos!
