After our refrigerator somehow shorted out the entire apartment last night (!!), resulting in us spending the night in a hotel (paid for by our landlord) I’m in need of a particularly calming Daily Dose of Green. No one got hurt, the lights are now back on so really not that big a deal. However, it made me realize we’re not prepared for a crisis at night. We had a large flashlight and some candles/matches, but, our cell phones weren’t charged and we don’t have a land line. I think the next place we might spring for a real land line…
I hope everyone has a lovely weekend and if you’re in NYC, I hope you’re out taking a walk in this lovely warm weather.

I’ve had these sea stones from Etsy Seller Resurrection Fern on my mind since I saw them on Design*Sponge last week. The stones would look amazing on my dinning room table or on a desk. The print (below) I’d love to hang as part of my gallery wall. PS: BIG NEWS: We found an apartment and we’re moving! On Monday. The house is awash in boxes and I’ll be so glad when we’re in the new place. I’ll post pictures of the new pad over the weekend.

I’ve been a little overwhelmed by how over-the-top the modern baby industry is — $1200 dollar strollers, $1800 cribs, $300 wooden toys. It’s not that I feel pressure to buy all of this (or could even afford it). It’s that I didn’t grow up with anything like that. We had lots of love and lots of hand-me downs and I’m pretty sure I spent some portion of my early life sleeping in a drawer. I guess I’m struggling with how to balance my own background with some of the innovations that seem worth the money to me (a rear facing stroller, non toxic toys (but not the $300 dollar version, thank you!)). Anyway, the hub rounded up these beautiful, haute, incredibly expensive cradles on 1st Dibs to make me feel better — that our modern age isn’t completely insane — its just the way it’s always been.

Today over at the D*S guest blog I share two great interviews with women who’ve started their own businesses. Tomorrow I’ll share my thoughts on starting an Etsy business. Hope you enjoy!

Dear Abbey, this impromptu hijacking (er, guest blogging) of Abbey Goes Design Scouting is really just to wish you a very happy 30th birthday and tell you how much I look forward to another year of your design scouting exploits. So, here’s to you, and many happy returns.
with love from your husband,
Tim.

Here is my husband Tim, holding his godson Nate last weekend in D.C (at Nate’s christening). It’s hard for me to decide who is cuter, my husband or the baby!

This is probably my favorite arrangement so far. I don’t usually like roses and had never thought to combine roses and daffodils, but really like them together. I can see that I’ve gotten much more confident with making small arrangements. See the rest of this year’s arrangements here. Ps Today’s my birthday! 30 years!
