The summer wedding circuit is in full swing and I’m hunting for a fun and affordable dress or two. When all your friends know each other and then get married to each other you just can’t wear the same dress to every wedding. A dilemma.
One of the fun parts of going home is seeing what crazy “mom” catalogs my mother is getting in the mail. You know what I mean — the crazy catalog world of women over 45. One of them, Barrie Pace, has a great selection of formal dresses that you would find at a Nordstrom/Lord&Taylor/Macy’s but at great prices. I really like this Tadashi dress, $258 marked down to $149 (loooooove the color) and there are hundreds more fun dresses, from $79-120 here. Warning: there are some serious old-lady dresses here too, but just keep your eye on the prize.

I came home to find Tim had bought this striking and funky arrangement from a local florist who specializes in Japanese arrangements. A few more photos here.

I decided to do my weekly year of flowers bouquet in North Carolina and peonies prevailed once more. The vase is my mother’s — I love the etched koi! You can get one here.

Mom and I stopped in to Micheal’s to check out the scene (yeah to gettin’ my fill of the strip mall) and spied this set of 26 vintage inspired Animal Alphabet cards for $9.99 from Martha Stewart Crafts line. So cute and such a good price. They would be very sweet in a nursery or just framing one or two of the letters that most appealed. Two of my closest friends are pregnant and due the same week so recently I’ve been digging all the cool baby stuff I could buy.

What for Mom and Abbey to do post dinner? Online window shopping of course. We came across these sweeeeet “Twins” Camper shoes ($159 at Nordstrom.com). We know I’m a little obsessed with silhouettes from this post and this one.

I’m kicking back in North Carolina with my mom, eating huge cherries and basking in the glory of central air. I landed at noon (easy flight from NYC to Raleigh), we headed straight to Whole Foods for lunch and ran a few errands and have been hanging out since about 3pm. Pan fried steak is on the menu for dinner, too. Yum. I spied this image over at Decor8 last week and it has been on my mind ever since — I love LOVE love the pink chairs — the size, the legs, the upholstery. And the dog is cute.

Every time I look at this garden I feel calm and cool. This is the “Italian” Garden at Longwood Gardens in Kennett Square, PA — visitor beware: I have to say that some of the rest of Longwood Garden felt a lot like Disneyland. More pictures of the Winterthur Gardens and Longwood Gardens here. Also, a huge HUGE thank you to Colleen from Fresh Vintage for tons of great restaurant recommendations and a great thrift store. We had such a nice trip thanks to her insider suggestions.

My favorite part of travel is the ephemera — ticket stubs, postcards, bits of maps, gum wrappers, sugar packets — all the little things about another culture that showcase how different or how similar it is to one’s own. However, I’ve never really come up with a good way to organize it all. I blogged here about a great way to showcase it in one’s home, but, I LOVE this journal from Anne over at Pret a Voyager. She details her chic philosophy on travel journals here and also links to some other beautiful journals that offer lots of inspiration on how to create a journal that reflects you and your trip.

It’s supposed to be a scorcher today in NYC, so we’re headed out to buy an air conditioner (we’ve put it off for a year and last night, as we disassembled the unit that came with our apartment, we realized that it was from 1989). Talk about inefficient. Wish me luck with the hordes at P.C. Richards. (Image via desire to inspire whose endless creativity makes me so happy).

I designed a couple of new cards and they finally came from the printer. I’m particularly in love with this sweet Zebra.

Trolling Ebay tonight I came across these sweet vintage charms ($7-13 US dollars) from an Australian seller. I know charms were a big thing last year, but I’m still digging sweet vintage ones.
